Things you never noticed about Olivia's apartment (5/7) - Part 2

Have you ever felt lost in Olivia’s apartment scenes? Did you ever have the feeling something has changed but don't know what? You’re not alone! We noticed that too, so we investigated a little bit and found out that Olivia’s apartment is changing all the time. We’re going to expose the main "discoveries" we've made.

Season 2 & 3 vs Season 4

We are in another timeline now, so we'd be disappointed if something in the kitchen didn't change.

They maintained the same structure of the kitchen but changed the decoration and the color of the furniture.

The Fringe Fridge

Three different fridges are used:

FRIDGE 1 (Season 1): all white.

FRIDGE 2 (Season 2 and 3 until 3x08): white with a black handle.

FRIDGE 3 (Season 3 from 3x09 and Season 4): silver.

Where was the washing machine?

In episode 3x09 we see a washing machine that wasn't there before! Let's have a look at that corner of the kitchen:

In season 1: there was a door to a patio.

In season 2 and season 3 (until 3x08): there was a big water bottle.

From 3x09 on: there's the cabinet with the washing machine!

#5 The Kitchen's Metamorphosis

Olivia’s apartment totally changed after episode 1x04 and so did the kitchen.

It went from wood-coloured furniture and a bricked wall to white furniture while still maintaining the brick style on one of the walls.

Let's see more changes:

Season 1 vs Seasons 2 & 3

Another significant change happens between season 1 and seasons 2&3. Pay attention to the left kitchen wall:

The window and the door to the patio disappear and it seems like she remodelled the kitchen to make it bigger. Also, the furniture in that part of the kitchen is totally different and she changed the high rectangular table for a regular round one and put it in the middle of the kitchen instead of against the wall.

Some of the cabinets are different now and the drawers have a different style.

#4 The Bathroom Paradox

We see Olivia's bathroom for the first time on episode 2x02:

Let's see the floor plan to remind ourselves where the bathroom is:

As we can see, on the other side of the bathroom wall is the corridor, but let's see that picture of the corridor we showed on post number 2:

There's the neighbor's door on the wall where the bathroom is supposed to be!!

And what's more, judging from the light, there's a window on that wall too (Olivia's left).

The window is just on the wall where we saw the neighbor's door. Even if the neighbor's door didn't exist, that window wouldn't be possible either because it would overlook the corridor! How weird would that be?!

#3 The mysterious spaces
During Season 1, Rachel and Ella lived with Olivia in her apartment, but where did they sleep? Olivia's apartment just has one bedroom!

Let's follow Ella in this video from episode 1x12:

Ella goes through the kitchen to brush her teeth. We don't realise where the bathroom is until season 2, therefore, we think this is the way to the bathroom.

At the end of the same episode (1x12) Rachel goes to put Ella to bed and they follow the very same path:

If we take a look at that part of the kitchen we see a door. What's behind it? The bathroom? Another room? Judging from the light, it seems like the door leads to a patio. 





There's also another door in the living room that shows us it's impossible to have a room there. 

The mysteries don't end here. Ok, they want us to think the extra bedroom is there, but then, why does Ella go to get dressed in the opposite side in episode 1x15?

Did you notice where Ella goes? She dissapears through the apartment's front door! Is she sleeping at the neighbour's now? ;P

#2 Changes on the façade and the corridor

This is the façade of Olivia's apartment, appearing for the very first time in episode 1x06:

You'd think they'd want to show that Olivia lives in the apartment with the lights on, right? But according to this floor plan that's not possible, Olivia lives in the one with the lights off and that's in another building.

This is the establishing shot for every episode but three:

1x12, 1x15 and 1x18

In 1x12 (The No-brainer) Olivia runs to her apartment to save Ella but the façade is not the one we know of.

In 1x15 (Inner Child) and 1x18 (Midnight) the image preceding Olivia's apartment scene is different. They changed the façade again! We can also see that façade on some episodes later on like 4x04.

Let's talk about the corridor now. This is how it looks in Season 1:

And this is the corridor in Season 2 and 3:

While she's clearly living in the same apartment, the corridor changes from season 2 onwards: there's no staircase and she no longer lives near the entrance of the building. Another goof!

We noticed that too, so we investigated a little bit and found out that Olivia’s apartment is changing all the time. We’re going to expose the main "discoveries" we've made.

#1 Olivia's apartment completely changes after episode 1x06

In episodes 1x01 to 1x06, the living room and bedroom were integrated into one space, and the kitchen door was in front of the bed. You can clearly see that in episode 1x04 when Olivia arrives home, goes to the kitchen and John Scott appears.

But from episode 1x09 on we see 3 different spaces and the kitchen is now at the other end of the apartment.

The apartment is so different, you'd think she'd moved to a new one. It turns out that the shot of the building's façade, at the start of every apartment scene, is always the same (We'll talk more about the façade later on). Maybe she moved to another apartment inside the same building? But again, the image preceding the apartment scenes always shows the same windows. Maybe she refurbished the apartment? That doesn't seem possible either. So what happened?
