Prophetic Scenes (Part V)

By Danna Aissa (@DannaAissa)

During my last Fringe rewatch I took note of some scenes that give us clues to what will happen further on. Some of them are so big that you can't believe they're revealing that information at that point, and some of them are simply little anecdotes. I thought it would be fun to put them together here.

Indeed! The scar was on the other side...

I think Walter wasn't just talking about the creature...

"What was written will com to pass"... What if Nick Lane was talking about the Observers here?

More scenes next Tuesday!

  1. Let me begin by saying that I absolutely love your blog. Especially this prophetic scenes! I look for them myself when I rewatch the show, but some of them I've missed! So that's interesting :) Regarding the second scene in this post, I have a theory. Sorry about my English, but here we go:

I've thought a lot about it, what war ZFT actually was referring to. Was it the war against the Observers? Or the "war" against the alternate universe? I've come to the conclusion that it has to be the latter, since the Cortexiphan subjects have absolutely nothing to do with the war against the Observers in 2036. Except for Olivia of course. The ZFT manuscript is tricky though, since it mentions something about that the enemy is first observing, but then taking control, which make you believe that it's the Observers its referring to. But the ones that observe, I actually think that's the Shapeshifters.

I believe that "the war" referred to in the ZFT manuscript is in fact the war against the other side. I also believe that it was William Bell that created the war in the first place, and that everything he ever did during the series was to create that war. Because in the amber timeline he wants to collide the two universes and destroy them so that he can create his own. And Nick Lane, who is recruited by Bell, tries to convince Olivia that the people in the alternate universe are evil. That would explain why William Bell has helped Walternate with technology.

This does lead to a very important question... This is never mentioned or implied in any way... But IF my theory is right (and I think so, there are a lot of leads that points at it) does this mean that William Bell may have been the one that made Peter sick? Because he knew that Walter loved him too much to let go and therefore would cross over to the other side and bring back the other Peter which was the event that triggered the "war" from the beginning?

    1. Hi Bea!

Thanks a lot for your comment! :)

I’ve been thinking about your theory and I think you can see the whole story in many different ways. They’re playing ambiguity all the time and that’s the great thing about Fringe, you keep thinking and re-thinking about it even when the show is done.

I like to see the whole show as if it was the story about the observers who have done some ‘mistakes’ while they were studying our civilization looking for a better place (or time in that case) to live. So ultimately the war they’re talking about is against the observers but it turns out that a war against an alternate universe happens in between (and an observer is kind of responsible for that). So what if the observers were running experiments and using the original 12 to do it? What if the observers created the war against the alternate universe on purpose? and what if they did that to mislead us and to get rid of the Cortexiphan subjects?

Look at these lines: “They are coming” “What was written will come to pass” They appear in several occasions during the show and they’re always clearly related to the observers. Besides, on S5 Bell was on the observer’s side, so maybe he knew their plans from the beginning and that’s why he wrote ZFT.

Nevertheless, your theory could be right too. But I don’t think Bell was responsible for Peter’s disease because he couldn’t know whether Walter was going to find the cure or not. Besides, Walter didn’t want to bring Peter over here in the first place, it was a snap decision when the bottle containing the cure got broken. If Walter had cured Peter over there, things would have been very different. Bell couldn’t know what was going to happen. And regarding Bell’s plans on S4 I think he was just taking advantage of the situation.

      What do you think? ;)

    2. Of course, I agree with you, that's why Fringe is so fantastic. The possibilities (and impossibilities ;) ) are infinite!

Yeah, when I look back, some of the "prophetic scenes", as you call them, seem to be about the Observers, but for me some of them seem to be about the other side or about the shapeshifters. It's so hard fuguring out what they actually mean. But that's kind of the charm also, isn't it? :) And the thing about Peter's disease was something I just threw out, without really thinking about that that would mean that William Bell already had crossed over and made the alternate Peter sick also... So that theory was kind of fail ;) But over all, it can't help but feel that William Bell was responsible for the war between the universes since he published the manifesto that kind of makes it sound like that.

Sorry about my English, I'm in a bit of a hurry! Thank you for replying and following my blog via Facebook! :D Keep spreading the Fringe love! <3
