Vancouver Filming Locations

By Danna Aissa (@DannaAissa)

As some of you already know 2 months ago I was in Vancouver for 10 days. My reasons for going had nothing to do with Fringe, but I made sure that I had time for a little Fringe tour in-between all the things on my to-do list. So this post is about my filming-locations research and those I visited in Vancouver.

Before going I prepared a little route based on the maps I found here:
This is a blog @fringeg33k wrote. I've been trying to talk to her/him but the blog and accounts on Twitter are no longer active. Thanks for that amazing work! I thought you wouldn’t mind if I shared...

Once I was in Vancouver a friend offered to do the Fringe tour with me, and to my amazement he’d prepared a tour based on the following website even though he hadn’t even heard of Fringe before. Thanks Manny! ;)
I think there is almost every Fringe location -from S2 to S4- in there!

As there are tons of locations, you have to choose. Here are the ones I visited:

On that map, I added YouTube videos with the scenes for almost every location because I would've liked to have them when I was there. Sometimes, you don’t remember every detail of the scenes and they fool you easily on screen, so I thought it might be useful to have a look at the scenes while you’re there to enjoy the Fringe experience to the fullest!

Some tips:

Downtown Vancouver is not very big. You can visit all the Fringe locations in Downtown and Stanley Park in one day. Of course, be prepared because it's going to be a long day!

If you want to go to UBC this is going to take you a full morning or afternoon. And it’s worth visiting the Museum of Anthropology despite not being a Fringe location ;P

The Orpheum is a very important Fringe location and a really beautiful theatre, so I tried to book tickets for a concert but they don’t have concerts very often. I recently found out about tours, which is an option if you can’t get tickets: www.bit.ly/1lJZUVF I hope you’re luckier than me!

Take your time and visit the Vancouver Public Library (Fringe Division Over There) it’s amazing!

The most exciting Fringe location, for me, was McLeod’s Books(Markham’s). The store is exactly like the one on Fringe. It felt like Markham was about to appear at any moment! And if you love books, you’re going to be entertained for a long time :D

Vancouver is a very safe city, but make sure to avoid the Downtown Eastside, specially Hastings St. east of Abbot St.

I really hope the maps and the tips have been useful. Enjoy your trip and please, share your experience with us! If you do write anything let me know and I can post it on this blog :)
